2026 PEOPLE’S KITE FESTIVAL

This Is What Community Looks Like

Saturday, May 9th at Los Angeles State Historic Park was pure magic.

Over ten thousand people showed up, spread out across the grass, looked up at the sky, and just — exhaled. Kites everywhere. Kids running. Music pumping. The kind of afternoon that makes you forget your phone exists and reminds you why living in this city is a gift.

There is something about watching a kite climb into a blue LA sky that breaks every adult down to about six years old. It doesn’t matter where you came from, what neighborhood you rep, or what language you speak — when that thing catches wind and lifts, everybody cheers. That’s the Kite Festival. That’s the whole point.

The community came out and came through. Families set up spots early. Vendors kept everyone fed. The music never stopped. Dancers found their groove in the middle of the field like it was the most natural thing in the world. Kids who had never flown a kite in their life figured it out and lost their minds with joy when it worked.

This is what we show up for. Not just the kites — though the kites were absolutely incredible — but the reminder that Los Angeles is full of people who want to be together, who want to share something, who want to build something beautiful in the same space at the same time.

Project MonarchLA has been part of this community from day one, and days like Saturday are exactly why we do what we do. This park, these people, this sky — it belongs to all of us.

Here’s a look at the day through our lens. Every single face tells the story better than we ever could. 🪁

Lots of love and props to Clockshop for pulling this event together year after year! Sue, Dario, and Julia, you are so appreciated!
